Simulation Center
Harbor-UCLA Medical Center has its own freestanding simulation center, which is utilized by various specialties for resident training. Anesthesia-related equipment housed at the simulation center includes airway management devices, central venous catheter trainers, airway mannequins, physiologically responsive adult and pediatric simulators, a functional anesthesia ventilator, and mock medication, malignant hyperthermia, and crash carts.
During their CA-1 year, residents utilize the simulation center for airway management training and participate in a central line placement workshop. In addition, residents participate in scenario training twice a year. The goal of scenario training is to introduce anesthesiology residents to rare but relevant situations in a nonjudgmental and confidential manner, so that they can develop the knowledge to appropriately manage these events.
Residents can also supplement their education experience by utilizing the transesophageal echocardiography trainer housed at our institution’s Simulation Center.
