Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program at the Los Angeles County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and the Good Samaritan Hospital in California

The advanced interventional cardiology fellowship is a collaborative program based at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and Good Samaritan Hospital.  The experience is unique among fellowship programs in the variety and complexity of the training experience.  A total of seven dedicated interventional faculty at two facilities support the one-year ACMGE-accredited fellowship program.

Harbor-UCLA is a large, public tertiary care center providing cardiovascular services to a large and diverse patient population.  Trainees enjoy a special educational experience in an environment dedicated to effective, patient-centered, and advanced care.  Harbor serves its own community of patients in addition to critically ill patients as part of Los Angeles County’s STEMI and Cardiac Arrest system of care.   There are three full-time interventional faculty alongside full-time faculty in general and adult congenital cardiology, advanced imaging and electrophysiology.  All faculty hold academic appointments in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and welcome fellows’ participation in their creative pursuits.

The two modern cardiac catheterization laboratories at Harbor-UCLA provide 24/7 service and an opportunity to take substantial responsibility for interventional services with direct supervision of faculty.  Fellows participate in all procedures including diagnostic catheterization, coronary interventions, peripheral, structural and transcatheter valve procedures.

Good Samaritan Hospital is located adjacent to downtown Los Angeles and serves its local community and a very active referral practice for its advanced interventional therapies.  The recently updated cath labs and hybrid procedure rooms provide a wonderful and supportive environment.  Fellows participate in all aspects of interventional patient care at Good Samaritan Hospital including a truly unique and intensive breadth of interventional procedures.

Fellow education is supported at both sites by robust didactic sessions, cardiac catheterization conferences, angiogram review sessions, journal clubs and the educational activities available in the general fellowship program.  Fellows enjoy a longitudinal interventional clinic experience while rotation at Harbor-UCLA.   Procedural experience is provided with an ethos of continued challenge, growth, and graduated independence.  Coronary interventional volume exceeds requirements for board eligibility and the quantity of endovascular, structural and valvular experience sets a high bar for integrated interventional training programs.

We take great pride in training our fellows and welcome your interest in our program.
