Housing

Harbor-UCLA maintains 5 dormitory-style rooms which are available to visiting fourth year medical students during the student’s UCLA-approved clerkship.

Each room accommodates two (three in room 6) students. The room accommodations include twin beds, a small closet, a dresser and desk. Bed linens are changed daily. There is a telephone in each room which connects to hospital extensions only. Separate male/female bathroom facilities, which lock from the inside, are at the end of the hallway. Towels are also available outside the bathrooms. Each occupant is issued two keys: one to the door of the building and one to the dorm room. Free parking is available on campus.

Fees: $35.00 refundable key deposit and a nominal daily charge. Both are payable on the first day of occupancy to the cashier. The cashier’s office will accept cash and personal checks only.

Procedure to Utilize Housing
  1. UCLA-approved 4th Year Medical students can email the office of Graduate Medical Education/Medical Administration to request housing. He/she will need to provide dates of clerkship.
  2. If housing is available, the student will be advised of the possibility of room-sharing.
  3. The room will be available for occupancy on the first morning of the approved clerkship. The student will be advised to report to 8E8 to sign in (all visiting students must sign in).
  4. After signing in, the student(s) who have previously reserved rooms, will be given a form to take to the cashier’s office for the purpose of payment of the fees as indicated above.
  5. The student(s) will return to 8E8 with the paid receipt issued by the cashier’s office.
  6. Keys will be issued to the student for the dorm room.
  7. On the last day of the rotation the student will remove his/her belongings from the room and return the keys to 8E8 during office hours.
  8. The student’s paid receipt will be returned so that the student can return to the cashier’s office and make arrangements for the key deposit refund.

The Office of Graduate Medical Education may extend use of the dorm rooms to incoming Interns or Residents for short periods immediately following the first day of employment while the new employee obtains permanent housing. This is on a case-by-case basis and will be determined by the Director or Administrative Director.
