Graduate Medical Education
Welcome to the Transitional Year Program
The Transitional Year Program at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center provides new physicians with clinical abilities that serve as a foundation for future training and career paths. The program provides comprehensive training in internal medicine and general surgery to serve as a basis for subspecialties such as ophthalmology, radiology, dermatology, radiation oncology, and more. The objective of the transitional year program is to provide well-balanced training in multiple clinical disciplines designed to facilitate the choice of and preparation for a specific specialty, including specialties requiring a year of fundamental clinical education as a prerequisite.
The Transitional year program also provides clinical education for those medical school graduates planning to serve in public health organizations, on active duty military assignment, or those who desire or need to acquire at least one year of fundamental clinical education before entering administrative medicine or non-clinical research. Many of our trainees have moved on to competitive fellowships in their field and have risen to prestigious positions at prominent medical facilities around the country.
