Program Overview
The Harbor-UCLA Internal Medicine Program provides an outstanding foundation for future practices in fields like Dermatology, Radiology, Ophthalmology and PM&R, and more. Realizing our Preliminary residents have diverse needs and interests our residents are integrated into the Departments of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Emergency Medicine and Neurology. We currently offer:
We offer 12 Preliminary Year positions each academic year:
- 10 Non-linked Preliminary Positions – Open to applicants pursuing diverse advanced specialties.
- 2 Linked Preliminary Positions
Program Highlights
– Exposure to both medical and surgical core clinical rotations
– No continuity clinic for prelims
– 3 elective months to allow prelims to gain further exposure to their future subspecialty as well as exposure to research
– 4 weeks of vacation
– Located in the South Bay of Los Angeles, a great places to work and play near the beach

- Limb Salvage – 1 block
- Urgent Care Clinic – 0.5 block
- Medicine Subspecialty – 0.5 block
- Emergency Medicine – 1 block
- Surgical Oncology – 1 block
- Elective Rotations – 3 blocks
- Cardiac Care Unit – 1 block
- Medicine Wards – 3 blocks
- Neurology – 0.5 block
- Medical Intensive Care Unit – 0.5 block
- Vacation – 1 block
