Patients”
(PI: Joel D. Kopple) |
$294,247/year |
5/16/03-01/31/08 |
A study to determine dietary protein
requirements in maintenance hemodialysis patients. |

DK45426-10 "African American Study of Kidney Disease and Hypertension and Cohort Study" (PI at |
$100,000/year |
9/30/92-5/31/2008 |
The proposed research is a part of a multicenter, prospective,
double- masked randomized clinical trial examining the effect of three drug
regimens (ACEI, CCB and B-blockers) and two different levels of MAP control
(<92 versus 102-107 mmHg). Thus, the study will follow a three by two
factorial design. The outcome of the
study will estimate the changes in GFR in a fixed time period among the three
treatment arms and the two levels of blood pressure control. |
3.
NIH-RO1 DK54457-01A1 “Anabolic Effects of Exercise Training in Hemodialysis” (PI: Joel D. Kopple) |
$261,261/year |
(no cost extension requested to 2006) |
This project
examines the primary hypothesis that in MHD patients strength training (ST),
Endurance Training (ET) or a combination of ST and ET (EST), as compared to
no training (NT), leads, in muscle, to decreased mRNA for myostatin and
increased MRNA for a number of growth factors. |
4.
1-K23 DK61162-01 “Nutritional
and Inflammatory Evaluations in Dialysis Patients” (PI: K. Kalantar-Zadeh; |
$125,000/year |
|
An
epidemiological study of risk factors for morbidity and mortality in
Maintenance Hemodialysis patients. |

National Kidney Foundation of |
$12,400/year |
2000 -2003 |
This is an institutional grant to
provide research training for Nephrology fellows. This grant program was

Peritoneal Dialysis” (PI: Rajnish Mehrotra;
Co-Investigator: Joel D. Kopple) |
$50,000/year |
01/01/03-12/31/06 |
Metabolic nitrogen balance study in chronic
peritoneal dialysis patients to test the hypothesis that maintaining a
high-normal arterial blood pH is associated with greater protein anabolism
then a low-normal arterial blood pH. |
8.
Sigma-Tau “Gentamicin
Renal Toxicity Rat Study” (PI: Joel D. Kopple) |
Total of $50,000 |
9/1/98- 06/30/2005 |
A study to test whether will ameleorate or
prevent the acute renal injury caused by Gentomycin. |
9.
Amgen, Inc. “Impact
of Inflammation and Malnutrition on Erythropoietin Resistance, Refractory
Anemia and Iron Metabolism in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients”(PI: K.
Kalantar-Zadeh; Co-Investigator: Joel D.Kopple) |
Total of $40,400 |
11/19/01-1/18/04 |
This study will be performed to find out is
inflammation and malnutrition, which are common among dialysis patients,
interfere with the treatment of anemia in hemodialysis patients. |
