SIMULATIONS
Laparoscopic Training and Simulation Training
The laparoscopic training lab provides the opportunity for the residents, fellows, and medical students to become comfortable with the equipment and mechanics of both laparoscopic and robotic surgical techniques. All residents receive training in both laparoscopic and robotic surgery. Residents also have the option to complete robotic certification prior to graduation.
Simulation Training
Our robust simulation curriculum is a highlight for residents and faculty. Throughout the year we host over 30 simulations for our residents covering a range of topics including postpartum hemorrhage, eclampsia, operative vaginal delivery, shoulder dystocia, laceration repair, hysteroscopy, laparoscopic and vaginal hysterectomy, and many more.
Drills
Labor and Delivery is a dynamic environment where split second decision making and action is of the utmost importance. At Harbor-UCLA, we understand the value of involving all members of the care team in this collaborative process. The Perinatal Emergency Response Team (PERT), consisting of Nursing, Neonatology, Obstetrics, Anesthesia and Respiratory therapy, helps to organize and arrange Obstetrical emergency drills. These simulations work towards improving responsiveness and our facilities ability to systematically meet the demands of the acute care setting. We continue to use this format to identify areas where Harbor-UCLA can innovatively continue to lead into the 21st century.
Environmental Impact
We recognize that operating rooms generate a significant amount of medical waste which negatively impacts our environment. At Harbor–UCLA, we are committed to reducing our surgical footprint through mindful practices and sustainable initiatives. As a training program, we also emphasize environmental stewardship as part of physician responsibility.
