2ND YEAR CORE CLERKSHIP
The Second Year Core Clerkship is an opportunity to expose Student Physicians to the basics of both Obstetrics and Gynecology. The clerkship consists of a contiguous block of service with the Obstetrics team as well as a similar block with the Gynecology teams. During the Obstetrics portion of the clerkship, students will participate on Labor and Delivery (triage of the pregnant patients, management of labor, delivery, etc.) prenatal clinics, and postpartum rounds. Gynecology blocks will include outpatient clinics, operative exposure, and management of patients in the acute post-operative period. This structure allows for students to not only observe and participate in both facets of the field, but also allow them to build a rapport with each respective team of residents and faculty. This continuity also allows for a more enriching learning environment.
A didactic lecture series is provided 1-2 times per week with multiple faculty members in their respective areas of expertise and interest.
Call duties will be no more than 1-2x/rotation, and a portion of your rotation will be spent with the night float service covering overnight duties.
While on service, students participate in simulations and drills alongside the residents and will be exposed to suturing, knot tying, mastery of the pelvic exam and basic Gyn procedures.
