HARBOR-UCLA Visiting Student Scholarship to Advance DEI Initiatives in Obstetrics and Gynecology for Outstanding Final Year Medical Students

Purpose

The Harbor-UCLA Medical Center Department of OB/Gyn is recruiting final year medical students who require financial assistance in order to participate in one of the eligible electives, and for whom working with underserved populations is a career interest, to apply to do a clinical elective to experience our culture of excellence, mission-driven purpose and community at Harbor-UCLA.  We pride ourselves in serving one of the most diverse cities and strive to provide the highest quality care to all our patients. We are dedicated to fostering workforce diversity at every level in the department.

Award

  • Awards up to $1500 reimbursable to offset costs for travel, lodging and/or food
  • The Student Scholar will spend a 3-week sub-internship on either High Risk Obstetrics, Gyn Surgery, or Ambulatory Gyn rotations
  • One-on-One Mentorship Meeting with an OB/Gyn Faculty Member
  • Networking opportunities with faculty, residents and staff who are invested in your success

Eligibility

  • Students who require financial assistance in order to participate in one of the eligible electives in Harbor-UCLA OB/Gyn
  • Students must be in their MS4 year and applying into OB/Gyn during the 2024-2025 application cycle
  • Students must be in good academic standing at a U.S. medical school
  • A complete VSLO application must be submitted for the elective(s)
  • Students who are actively involved in promoting activities in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

Eligible Electives

  • OG322.03 – High Risk Obstetrics
  • OG340.03 – Gynecologic Surgery
  • OG357.01 – Ambulatory Women’s Health Elective

How to Apply

  • Complete the VLSO application.
  • Select elective(s) and include a short letter of intent for why you would like to rotate at Harbor-UCLA.
  • Email Dr. Nadella and Anthony Ramirez with the above letter of intent as well as a short paragraph of why you should be considered for the DEI Initiatives Scholarship and your interest in DEI work.
  • Scholarship application does not affect elective scheduling.
