In March of 2016 our teenage son Connor was injured while riding his skateboard and suffered severe head trauma. He was brought into the Harbor UCLA Trauma center and transferred to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). In the PICU he was placed into the hands of a team of incredible doctors and phenomenal nursing professionals. The nursing team in the PICU is a special group of individuals that work together as a cohesive team to provide exceptional care to their patients. They welcome each young patient with a warm smile; a kind and comforting voice and quietly put their patients and their parents at ease. In Connor’s case, the Nurses were relentless in their attempts to ignite positive responses from him, often working together to solicit any form of communication. As Connor slowly improved they were as excited as we were and we often came into the PICU to find them cheering him on. We firmly believe that Connor’s recovery and progress is a direct result of the personal commitment and dedication the PICU Nurses and Doctors give every day and every evening to the children in their care. Our experiences were not unique. They consistently offer encouragement and comfort to their young patients, cheering up little ones that just want to go home, or soothing a tiny baby. During our time in the PICU we witnessed several young smiling patients and grateful parents returning to thank and hug the PICU team who were equally as excited to see them.

The PICU Nurses, Doctors and Staff will always hold a special place in our family’s hearts and in the hearts of other parents whose children had the benefit of being in their care. As parents, we are all profoundly grateful and appreciative.

Thank you,

The Daniels Family
