Welcome to the Department of Anesthesiology at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center! My name is Dr. Kevin DeWalt, and I am the incoming Anesthesiology Residency Program Director. As you prepare for the upcoming 2022-2023 residency interview season, please take time to review this webpage for helpful ERAS application requirements needed in order to be considered for an interview with our Program Leadership. Applying to the Department of Anesthesiology

All selections for first-year resident positions (PGY-1) are made through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). We only accept applications made through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). For the June 2023 start date, applications will be accepted from September 2022 through December 2022. However, we encourage applicants to apply as soon as possible. Interviews will be granted by invitation only.

Please note, interviews will be held virtually this season. Interviews will take place on select Wednesdays, with AM and PM sessions available.

Requirements for ERAS Application:

  • Photo
  • Minimum 3 Letters of Recommendation
  • Personal Statement
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Dean’s Letter (MSPE)
  • Medical School Transcript
  • USMLE Transcript

Additional Requirements for IMG’s:

  • All requirements listed above
  • The Medical Board of California will no longer issue Postgraduate Training Authorization Letters (PTAL) to international medical school graduates. Moving forward, international medical school graduates will not require a PTAL and may apply for residency through the ERAS application portal.
  • The Medical Board of California will recognize an international school as meeting the requirements for PTL/licensure so long as the school is listed on the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) and the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education (FAIMER) and Research World Directory of Medical Schools joint directory or the World Directory of Medical Schools.
  • We do not sponsor IMG’s, no exceptions.
  • We only accept J-1 Visas sponsored by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates-Exchange Sponsorship Program (ECFMG).
