Sports Medicine Fellowship
The Harbor-UCLA/Team to Win Sports Medicine Fellowship and Certificate of Added Qualification
The Family Medicine Residency program hosts a fully-accredited fourth-year position in Sports Medicine, leading to a Certificate of Added Qualification established in 2001. We have two positions and accept applicants from the fields of family medicine, internal medicine emergency medicine, pediatrics, and physical medicine and rehabilitation. Applicants must be board eligible/certified.
Sports Medicine Teams
During this one-year fellowship, the fellows serve as team physicians for LA Harbor College (Junior College), Long Beach City College (Junior College), California State University-Dominguez Hills (Division II, no football), Los Angeles Giltinis, Los Angeles Rugby Club, and a local high school.
Sports Medicine Community Outreach
The fellows participate in the Team to Win program which is a community outreach program for high school athletes (24 high schools in the South Bay Area) who cannot afford sports medicine and injury care. The fellows run an adolescent Saturday injury clinic during the football season that moves to a weekday during non-football season.
Sports Medicine Clinical Experience
This unique program encompasses a full range of athletes at all levels and individuals with chronic medical conditions participating in exercise programs. Clinical experience is gained in a variety of clinic settings including Harbor-UCLA, Kaiser Permanente, and the West Coast Sports Medicine Foundation.
Fellows are trained in soft tissue/joint injections, imaging interpretation, diagnostic and procedural ultrasound, exposure to fluoroscopic procedures, and arthroscopic/orthopedic procedures.
