HOSPITAL & HEALTH INSURANCE

Several health insurance programs, which include PPOs, HMOs, combined plans, and indemnity options are available. Employees can select amongst various options from Kaiser, Blue Shield, Anthem, Cigna, and more.  In general, there is no cost to house officers for individual health insurance, but there are monthly premiums if a spouse or family members are included in the coverage. There are several insurance options which cost less than the benefits allowance, and you can receive a maximum of $325 monthly if these are selected. Dental and vision are also included. If you have co-pays or out-of-pocket costs, these can be reimbursed by the union. Co-pays are reimbursed at 100%, and out-of-pockets costs are reimbursed up to $1,000 annually for medical costs and $1,000 annually for dental costs.

VACATION/SICK LEAVE

  • 25 vacation days per year, which does not include weekends or county holidays.  There is an option to roll-over a maximum of 10 days per year. Limit for vacation during the inpatient rotation at NPH is 2 weeks.
  •  8 days of paid sick leave per year.  There is a “buy back” program for those with no used sick leave every six months.

MEALS

Meals are provided to housestaff members without cost in our employee cafeteria (maximum of three meals per day).  Kosher and vegetarian options are always available. During call shifts, dinner is provided by in-house moonlighting staff.  For off-site rotations, lunch is reimbursed up to $25 per day.

PARKING

Parking is provided free-of-charge at Harbor, but must be paid out-of-pocket at UCLA, which can be reimbursed. Parking at UCLA can cost $9-$14 per day.
