Harbor-UCLA PSYCHIATRY

RESIDENT WELL-BEING

Our department is deeply committed to the personal development and well-being of our residents.   We consider everyone who works or trains here a member of the “Harbor family.”

Our sense of community is reinforced by our shared campus.  As a resident, most of your clinical duties will take place at sites steps away from each other.  We work closely with one another, so daily check-ins and open-door policies are the norm.  We also have a number of regular events that promote wellness including: an annual retreat for all residents, a weekly on-campus farmer’s market, bimonthly residency meetings, and several annual parties to celebrate the holidays, the incoming intern class, the end of the academic year, and graduation.  In addition, we support process groups for each resident class.

Should you need additional support in residency, the GME employs a clinical psychologist that provides confidential therapy to residents and provides longer-term therapy referrals.  If this option does not meet your needs, therapy with a provider of your choice is fully covered by most available health insurance plans.
