Harbor-UCLA PSYCHIATRY

DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND SOCIAL MISSION

At Harbor UCLA, we are committed to training a diverse and representative workforce and to building a team with a variety of backgrounds, skills, and viewpoints. Our definition of diversity includes ethnicity, gender identity, race, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, ability, age, and more.

Harbor UCLA’s Psychiatry Residency Program aims to equip our trainees to provide high-quality, inclusive, and culturally competent mental health care to marginalized populations. As a safety net hospital in LA County, we serve predominantly low-income patients who face pervasive inequities in and out of the healthcare system. We understand the importance of considering these inequities on the physical and mental health of our patients.

We are privileged to serve patients who are predominantly ethnically, racially, and linguistically diverse, who are LGBTQ+, or of low SES, and we strive to train individuals who reflect our patient population. We welcome applicants from underrepresented groups in medicine and aim to provide continuous support and mentorship throughout the training process. We holistically review resident program applications, and regularly evaluate for bias in our process.
