Harbor-UCLA PSYCHIATRY

CALL SCHEDULE

All call responsibilities are performed from the Harbor Psychiatric Emergency Services Unit (PER). Nurses, physicians, and caseworkers are centrally co-located in the PER.  There is more than one psychiatric resident in-house and multiple fellows and faculty available at all times, by phone, for clinical issues.

The majority of call duties relate to emergency evaluations. It is rare to receive calls overnight for floor issues due to our experienced nursing staff, and there are no staffing requirements for overnight inpatient admissions. There is no night float system at Harbor, and residents do not have pager responsibilities for inpatients or outpatients outside of weekday hours.  Call responsibilities also include covering as needed issues from the Inpatient and Consult Services.  Patients seen include adult and children.  Both direct and indirect supervision is provided.
