Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Application Process

The Harbor-UCLA Medical Center Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program participates in the National Matching Program and the PASS program. All applicants must apply to the program through these services. The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Training Program begins on July 1st of each year. The length of the program is 48 months. Applicants who match with the program should be available two weeks prior to the start date in order to complete processing and orientation.

Eligibility

Applicants with the following qualifications are eligible to apply:

  • Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. or Canada
  • Must be a graduate of a U.S. or Canadian dental school
  • Must be proficient in the English language
  • Must have passed Part I, National Dental Board Examination

Application Requirements

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program must receive the following application documents from PASS:

  • Dean’s Letter
  • Recommendation letter from the Chairman of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
  • Two additional letters of recommendation (your choice of faculty)
  • Personal Statement
  • Dental School Transcripts
  • Match Code
  • Official National Board Scores (Part 1 & 2)
  • CBSE/NBME
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Photograph

All above documents must be uploaded into the PASS website. No documents will be accepted via mail or email.

Applications will be considered complete when the program has received all the above documents on or before October 1st of the year preceding the desired date of entry into the program.

Interviews

The program invites approximately 15-20 applicants to interview for the two approved positions. Interviews are conducted in December. All applicants invited for an interview are contacted by mail or email.

Resident Selection

Applicants meeting the eligibility requirements will be considered on the basis of their preparedness, ability, aptitude, academic credentials, communication skills and personal qualities. The selection process will not consider gender, race, religion, age, national origin, disablility, sexual orientation or veteran status. All applicants are selected through the National Matching Program process.
